Some of the amazing children from OA Fatima Primary School in Lesotho - their PlayPump was installed last February. They used to walk for miles for water but now, because of their PlayPump, they don't have to anymore. They were able to start a vegetable garden because they had water to irrigate it.

One Big Push

Thanks to all of you who have already helped One Water by joining their Facebook page. There are currently over 13,000 of you :) But they need more of you!
250,000 fans need to be registered on the page by the end of the month in order for one of their trustees to make a donation of $5000.
If they reach this donation - $5000 translates to about 3,600,000 clean water days! So they’ve worked out that if 250,000 people support them, just through one click each person will each be giving African children 14 days of fresh, clean water.
And not only that, with 250,000 supporters they can approach leading supermarkets and high street shops and encourage them to stock One water, so that they can bring clean water to more children in Africa.
Please help them make a difference just join up at
http://www.onedifference.org/facebook today, it won't cost you a penny and it will give you a warm feeling inside we promise!
At 4pm today members of the group are staging a push toget more new people to join, please help by passing this info to all your friends on Facebook, Twitter, Bebo etc

A few people had some questions which Mark from Global Ethics has kindly answered below:
hey everyone... my name is Mark Spall and I work for Global Ethics... I'm one of the people behind the One Difference fan page. I'm hoping I can answer your questions and put your minds at rest.
1) We can't get individual information from Facebook Fan pages. Even if we wanted to Facebook don't allow us to. We do know general information about the group of people such as age, sex, country etc... but just how many people in each of those categories... none of your personal information is available. ... See more
2) That said we are not interested in your personal details anyway. The reason for wanting 250,000 on the group is so that we can demonstrate to big supermarkets that stocking ethical products that give all profits to charity is something that is worth them doing so. (I know hard to believe) but they need to see demand, people behind our brand. So you are helping to sell more product by joining.
3) The $5000 donation was offered out of the blue by one of our trustees. He's offered his own money because he knows how important it is that we get help stocking the products.
4) If you do the maths, each fan is worth 14 clean water days when we get out 250,000 target. Personally, I love it. It's such a simple way to make a genuine difference.
5) We want you to feel proud and part of something special. If it wasn't for people like you buying One products and helping it get on the shelves £3.5million would not have been raised. Regular people made it happen and you deserve recognition.
There's 5 very good reasons. I'm sure there are more.... why not pop over and join... it's fun and all in a good cause.
All the best, Mark.

David Signs Up For Retreat

Magnet Films have announced that David is part of the cast for their new psychological thriller, Retreat.

Screen Daily reports:
Thandie Newton, Jason Isaacs and David Tennant are attached to star in Magnet Films’ psychological thriller Retreat.
The film, to be directed by newcomer Carl Tibbetts, follows a couple (played by Newton and Isaacs) who are seeking to rebuild their relationship by taking time out on a remote island but their peace is shattered when they find a man in military uniform (Tennant) half-dead on their doorstep who tells them there is a lethal virus killing millions on the mainland.
Tibbetts co-wrote the script with Janice Hallett and shooting is due to begin in May in Canada. In a last-ditch attempt to save their faltering marriage, 30-something professional couple Martin & Kate Badenoch retreat to the remote and unpopulated island of Dinnish, a place where they once shared a romantic idyll. It is autumn on the island.
The rocky, barren moors are blown by freezing winds and the generator in the couple’s cottage is failing. Anxieties are pushed higher when they lose all contact with the mainland, and find themselves inexplicably stranded and alone.
Suddenly a wounded armed American stranger collapses at their door with frightening news of cataclysmic events happening in the world outside. But who is this volatile, charismatic American? And is he telling the truth? Slowly, the couple become unwitting prisoners to the stranger’s will.
In a series of tense twists the captive couple use all their ingenuity to outwit the stranger and unravel the ‘truth’ about the outside world. But is the truth what they really want to hear? Loyalties divide and merge, paranoia runs high and conflicts bubble to the surface resulting in a violent and shocking conclusion.
Magnet Films producer Gary Sinyor said: “It reminded me of Dead Calm when I first read it. Only better. It’s got a similar sexual tension but the battle of wits between the characters and plot twists are constantly surprising. We’re delighted to have secured three of the UK’s most powerful actors.”
It is UK based Magnet Film’s first foray into thrillers, following romantic comedy In Your Dreams, rock and roll adventure The Story Of _ and football documentary In The Hands Of The Gods.

A short synopsis of the plot follows:

Russell T Davies accepted the award on behalf of David and paid tribute to him:
"All a writer can ever hope for is a good actor. And David makes everyone look good - the costumes, set, scripts and cast all shine, because they've got that man acting his heart out at the centre of the show. He literally made everyone strive harder, to match him. And on top of that, as I'm sure you all know, he's been the most amazing ambassador for the show, taking on a huge and difficult public role with such good grace, and such a sense of joy. I'm delighted he's won this award, cos he's not just the best actor, he's the best of men. And I'm no longer his employer, so I don't HAVE to say this stuff any more - but it's true!"

Murder In Samarkland Update

The BBC Press Office have released further details about the plot of Murder In Samarkland:
David Tennant stars in David Hare's new drama for radio, Murder In Samarkand, based on the memoir by Craig Murray.
In Hare's play, Craig is a high-flyer in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office who loves his job and is proud to be appointed Ambassador for the first time, to Tashkent. It's before the Iraq war and Uzbekistan is newly in focus as a useful ally in the "War on Terror".
Craig is a man who, when he works, likes to work really hard, and when he has fun, he likes to really enjoy himself – and he immediately starts to do both. He visits the local British businesses, he finds the girls, the night clubs and the drinking friends. And he discovers he is Ambassador to a dire regime that imprisons dissidents and routinely uses torture on its citizens. He realises the Uzbeks are supplying the Americans with intelligence derived from torture, and he cannot get his head around the fact that UK complicity in this doesn't seem to concern his superiors – though they are shocked by the girls and the night clubs. The consequences for him couldn't be greater.
Murder In Samarkland will be broadcast as the Saturday Play on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday 20th February 2010 at 14:30pm.
Thanks to Blogtor Who for the photos of David and David Hare above.

The Ultimate Pub Quiz For Centrepoint

David attended The Ultimate Pub Quiz at Shoreditch House to raise over £40,000 in vital funds for youth homelessness charity Centrepoint last night.

Charity ambassador, Kirsty Young, who has supported Centrepoint for over 12 years took to the hot seat as quizmaster picking celebrities' brains.
Team captains and celebrities on the night included Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, Lisa Maxwell, Xander Armstrong, Richard Bacon, and Shane Ritchie. Teaming up with Centrepoint corporate supporters, the teams were quizzed on a series of questions spanning the 40 years since Centrepoint was founded, in which it has supported over 70,000 homeless young people.

Kirsty said "I have been a Centrepoint ambassador since 1997 and firmly believe in the value of the charity’s work. It is vital that we work together to end youth homelessness and ensure vulnerable young people are given a chance in life."
Seyi Obakin Centrepoint’s CEO said: "Centrepoint supports over 800 young people everyday and this event has helped to raise much needed funds to provide more homeless young people with a safe place to sleep, where they can start to build a brighter future. It will also keep the issue of homelessness in our minds during the current harsh winter".
The teams were given some respite from the brain busting questions as proceeding paused and celebrities were auctioned for the second round of the quiz to teams with the highest bids.

The winning team from law firm Herbert Smith receive the winners trophy.
The winning team, triumphing above the other 22 teams, was The Herberts, from top London law firm, Herbert Smith, who also supported Centrepoint's annual Sleep Out event in Spitalfields Market, raising awareness of the plight of homeless young people in November.
The quiz followed Centrepoint’s recent 40th anniversary celebrations during which Centrepoint’s Patron Prince William slept out in sub zero temperatures to raise awareness of youth homelessness and gain a personal understanding of the plight of homeless young people across the UK.
Please visit http://www.centrepoint.org.uk/ for further info on the work that Centrepoint do.
