Radio Times Covers Party Update

Karen Gillan, Rob Brydon, Rachel de Thame, Nick Park, Alex Jones and more attended this year's famous Radio Times covers party - the private bash where celebrities who've earned an RT cover during the previous 12 months are presented with a framed copy.
Filmed in central London on Tuesday night, host David Tennant welcomes you to the only video taken inside the actual event.
You can't buy your way into this buzzing party and you can't talk your way in - though press and paparazzi had a good try again this year! - but now you can see the fun for yourself.
You can see tonnes of photos of David from the event on the Radio Times website here.

Possible New Project

You may remember a few months ago that David mentioned that he may have been involved with a musical?
Well some interesting info comes via Doctor Who composer Murray Gold. Murray is currently working with BBC Radio 3 on his new project Kafka The Musical.
He posted a photo of the cast list on his twitter page which you can see above and if we're not mistaken his carefully placed finger is hiding none other than a certain Mr David Tennant, it's someone he describes as "one of my favourite actors"... Hmmm... No official word on it yet, but we're pretty excited!

RSC Costume Sale
OVER 10,000 ITEMS IN ROYAL SHAKESPEARE COMPANY COSTUME SALESaturday 12 February, 10am - 5pm RSC Rehearsal Rooms, Arden Street (at the junction with Birmingham Rd)
The Royal Shakespeare Company will be holding a Costume Sale on Saturday 12 February at its rehearsal rooms in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Around 10,000 items including costumes, shoes, hats and accessories will be available to purchase. The sale includes over 1,000 pairs of shoes, 500 shirts, 300 hats, Egyptian head-dresses, a variety of military uniforms, cloaks, clerical outfits – including nuns and priests, jewellery and chain-mail. The items cover a wide range of periods, including retro, vintage, Early English, Elizabethan and twentieth century.
The garments in the sale, originally constructed by the world renowned RSC Costume Department, have been chosen from the RSC Costume Store (which hires out RSC costumes after they have finished being used in its productions).
Amongst the items for sales are soldiers' tabards and chain-mail from the RSC's 1984 production of Henry V (with Kenneth Branagh) and later seen in Mel Gibson's film Braveheart, a light blue 18th century waistcoat worn by Charles Dance in As You Like It, a wine velvet regency cutaway coat worn by Sir Ben Kingsley, a selection of shirts worn by Sir Ian McKellen in The Seagull and his over-robe from King Lear and numerous items worn by David Tennant (including his understudy costume from the 2008 production of Love's Labour's Lost).
Located at the RSC Workshops on the outskirts of the town, the RSC Costume Store is currently home to over 40,000 costumes. The last costume sale was in 2007, and the RSC now needs to free up more space, both to create better storage conditions, and to make room for costumes new to the Store.
Alistair McArthur, RSC Head of Costume, and Stephanie Smith, Costume Store Manager, alongside their teams, have had the Herculean task of going through every costume to select those items that will go into the sale.
Alistair McArthur said: “Looking through the wealth of costumes stored in the RSC Costume Store has taken weeks of work. It's a mammoth task, with each of the 40,000 garments held there having to be assessed and reviewed by the RSC team.
“We have items for sale from every area of the wardrobe, including costumes that first made their debut on stage back in the 1970s and 80s. The sale will include costumes designed by top theatre designers like Deirdre Clancy and our own Olivier Award-winning Tom Piper. With many items starting at just £3 we hope that people will take the opportunity to come along and purchase a piece of theatre history.”
The sale, which takes place at the RSC's rehearsal rooms in Arden Street in Stratford-upon-Avon (at the junction with Birmingham Road), will be open to members of the public on Saturday 12 February between 10am-5pm. Customer parking is available nearby at the Stratford District Council pay and display car park on Arden Street, and there is a facility for customer collection only, at the front of the building.

Press Release from Delfont Mackintosh follows:
David Tennant and Catherine Tate are to appear together on stage for the first time in a new production of William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy Much Ado About Nothing directed by Josie Rourke. Opening at Wyndham’s Theatre on Wednesday 1 June with previews from Monday 16 May and booking until Saturday 3 September 2011, Much Ado About Nothing is presented in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions. Further casting will be announced shortly.
Two young lovers Claudio and Hero are to be married imminently but the devious scheming of a resentful Prince looks set to thwart the nuptials. Meanwhile, marriage seems inconceivable for reluctant lovers Beatrice (Catherine Tate) and Benedick (David Tennant) whose endless witty sparring threatens to keep them apart forever.
David Tennant has worked extensively in theatre, television and film winning numerous awards for his work including the Critics' Circle Award for Best Shakespearean Performance and the National Television Award’s Outstanding Drama Performance. For the Royal Shakespeare Company his credits include As You Like It, The Herbal Bed, The Comedy of Errors, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream; and more recently, Love’s Labour’s Lost and the title role in Hamlet. His film credits include LA Without a Map, Bright Young Things, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, St Trinian’s II: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold and the forthcoming Fright Night and The Decoy Bride. On television he is best known for playing the tenth incarnation of the Doctor in the BBC’s classic series Doctor Who. He has most recently been seen playing the title character in the BBC’s Single Father and next year he will play Jimmy Murphy in BBC television’s United.
Multi award-winning Catherine Tate can currently be seen in Alan Ayckbourn’s Season’s Greetings at the National Theatre. She was last in the West End in David Eldridge’s Under the Blue Sky, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions. Her other theatre credits include Neil LaBute's Some Girls at the Gielgud Theatre, The Exonerated at Riverside Studios, A Servant to Two Masters for the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Prince's Play and The Way of the World for the National Theatre. After playing Donna Noble opposite David Tennant in the BBC’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, Tate went on to reprise the role of the Doctor’s companion in the fourth series. Her acclaimed television sketch show The Catherine Tate Show has seen three hugely successful series on the BBC while her other television credits include Little Crackers, Nan’s Christmas Carol, The Bad Mother’s Handbook, Wild West and Big Train. Her film credits include The Monte Carlo Story, Gulliver’s Travels, Love and Other Disasters, Mrs Ratcliffe’s Revolution, Starter for Ten, Sixty Six and Scenes of a Sexual Nature.
Josie Rourke is Artistic Director of the Bush Theatre where her productions include How to Curse, Tinderbox and 2000 Feet Away. Previously she was Associate Director of Sheffield Theatres where she directed World Music, The Unthinkable, Much Ado About Nothing, The Long and the Short and the Tall and Kick for Touch. As a freelance director her work includes Men Should Weep, which is currently playing in repertoire at the National Theatre, Crazyblackmuthfuckin’self and Loyal Women for the Royal Court, My Dad’s a Birdman for the Young Vic, Believe What You Will and King John for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the 24 Hour Plays for the Old Vic and Frame 312, World Music and The Cryptogram for the Donmar Warehouse

Role in Busby Babes film was a real kick for me, says Scots actor David Tennant
DAVID TENNANT has revealed he was desperate to star in a new football drama - despite not being a fan of the game.
The former Doctor Who will appear in upcoming BBC film United, The Busby Babes, about the 1958 Munich air crash.
Tennant, 39, plays Manchester United assistant manager Jimmy Murphy, who takes over the team following the tragedy, which killed eight players and left boss Matt Busby seriously injured.
Tennant said:"I am famously not that much of a football fan at all, so when the script arrived I didn't think that it was going to be for me.
"However, it really knocked me back and the emotional power of the story is what hooked me.
"The way I saw it was if it was affecting me, then it's one that is going to get to everyone."
Fellow Scottish actor Dougray Scott, 44, has signed up to play Busby.

Details of David's role in Decoy Bride were announced in May 2010 at the Cannes Film Festival. He will be taking on the role of James in a new romantic comedy set in Scotand. The film will also star Kelly MacDonald and Alice Eve.Decoy Bride tells the story of a superstar actress, Lara (Eve), who just wants to marry her cute British boyfriend James (Tennant), and believes the sleepy Scottish Island of Hegg is the one place the world’s press won’t find them. But when an ingenious paparazzo tracks them down, the diva must find a decoy bride and thinks local girl Katie (MacDonald) will be an ideal replacement. But when Katie meets James, sparks fly.The film is directed by Sheree Folkson, whose credits include the Ugly Betty and Casanova. Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae of Ecosse Films and Paul Ritchie will produce the film. In November 2010 the BBC Press Office announced that David would be starring in United as Jimmy Murphy.
United is based on the true story of Manchester United's legendary "Busby Babes", the youngest side ever to win the Football League, the 1958 Munich Air Crash that claimed eight of the their number and the extraordinary spirit of a city that rebuilt the team in the wake of the disaster.
The Munich Air Crash killed 22 of the 44 passengers onboard, including supporters, journalists and embassy staff.Simon Heath, Executive Producer, World Productions, says: "Chris Chibnall has written an authentic and moving version of this heartbreaking story, which with the help of a great cast, we hope will be a fitting tribute to those who survived and those who lost their lives at Munich."
Peter Salmon, Director, BBC North, says: "This was a tragedy that touched the lives of many people in Manchester both directly and indirectly. With its superbly talented cast and powerful script, I am proud that BBC North is supporting this project."
Written by Chris Chibnall (Law & Order: UK, Camelot) and directed by James Strong (Dr Who, Hustle), the film is produced by Julia Stannard (The History Boys, The Government Inspector) and executive produced by World Productions Simon Heath (Larkin: Love Again, Hancock & Joan) and Polly Hill for the BBC. Commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning and Janice Hadlow, Controller, BBC Two. United is backed by Lip Sync Productions, Content Films, BBC North and the BBC.
United was filmed in and around the North East of England at the end of 2010. It has been reported that it may have a cinema release.
