David In This Is Jinsy

Love Life Update

As filming for David's new BBC drama, Love Life continues we have a quick catch up on the news so far.

It was revealed earlier in the week that both the BBC and ITV have commissioned new dramas with the same name, but whilst David's Love Life has already begun filming ITV's is still in the pre production stage. The Radio Times asks who should change the name here.

Although David and his former Doctor Who co star Billie Piper are starring in different episodes of the drama, it's a series of interlocking stories and so it's likely there will be character cross overs between episodes.

The Press Association released the following cast update for David's episode:

Former EastEnders star Lacey Turner and Bafta-winning actress Vicky McClure have been added to the cast of improvised BBC One drama series Love Life.
They join David Tennant and Billie Piper in the series of five overlapping stories created by writer and director Dominic Savage, which has just begun filming.
Lacey won a bundle of awards for her years playing Albert Square's Stacey Slater and last year appeared in BBC Three's live musical event Frankenstein's Wedding.
Vicky won acclaim for her performance in Channel 4's This Is England 86.
She will play Serena, the first love of Tennant's character Nick, who comes back into his life after many years with Lacey as her younger sister Michelle.
Also added to the cast are Jenny Agutter and Jaime Winstone.
The five programmes look at contemporary love stories and are set in the seaside town of Margate in Kent.

Meanwhile the Thanet Star reported on sightings of David and the director Dominic Savage in Margate.

This Is Jinsy Press Interview

What attracted you to Jinsy?
"My very good friend is the second assistant director and I had a call from her saying she was working on something very exciting and that I should get involved. They were approaching people to do guest spots and I think my name had been mentioned.
"I read the script and it's so unusual - it's difficult to get your head round because you're constantly trying to figure out what it is! Until you get on set, you have no idea how extraordinary this world is, the way that Justin and Chris have created it, the way Matt has directed it, and how it all comes together."

How's the experience been?

"I've had a blast. I'm so glad I was invited to get involved, to meet Justin and Chris."

You play Mr Slightlyman, can you tell me a bit about him?

"Mr Slightlyman is a Jinsy celebrity. He's the host of the wedding lottery show and has been for a lot longer than you'd imagine. He's older than he looks and is clearly a fan of plastic surgery. Without giving anything away, Mr Slightlyman may be paying for those treatments through slightly less than honourable means..."

How lengthy is the make-up process?"It's intentionally low tech - it's a very old-fashioned facelift where they literally stick your face back. That's not to say it's not nice to get it all off at the end of the day though."

And your costume isn't exactly for the shy and retiring. Has it made you rethink your own sense of style?

"Not really - it's actually quite similar to what I wear on a daily basis."

Thanks to Sky Atlantic.

Life And Fate Downloads

Kenneth Branagh and David Tennant star in an eight-hour dramatisation of Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman. Thirteen episodes will be broadcast from 18 to 25 September on Radio 4. This epic masterpiece, centred around the bloody battle of Stalingrad, charts the fate of both a nation and a family in the turmoil of war. Completed in 1960, the novel was deemed so dangerous by the KGB that the book itself was arrested. All the episodes are available to download on the BBC website here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/features/life-and-fate/

West End Bares - Bid For Underwear Signed By DT

Stars of stage and screen descended on London's legendary Cafe de Paris last night, for a bold fundraising event, which saw hot performers get their kit off for charity.
Hosted by TVs top fashion guru, Gok Wan - famous for his expert styling in dressing ordinary people up as well as making them look good naked - the event, West End Bares, involved around 100 of theatreland's finest.
The unique production combined the naughtiness of burlesque with the razzle dazzle of the West End and was billed "a night of fun, flesh and fashion".
Around 1,000 people turned out for the performance and party, in aid of West End-based charity, The Make A Difference Trust; estimated to have already raised in excess of £35, 000 from the event.
The Trust funds projects to tackle poverty and ill-health in the UK and Africa, as well as providing hardship help to industry members who've fallen on hard times due to sickness.

Life And Fate Press Release & Full Schedule

The BBC Press office have released the following:

VASILY GROSSMAN'S LIFE AND FATE Classic Serial – Life And Fate: Viktor And Lyuda Ep 1/13

Sunday 18 September
3.00-4.00pm BBC RADIO 4

Ellie McKendrick, Kenneth Branagh, Greta Scacchi; back row, Nigel Anthony and Harriet Walter
Kenneth Branagh, Janet Suzman, David Tennant, Greta Scacchi and Harriet Walter star in this eight-hour dramatisation of Life And Fate by Vasily Grossman. This epic saga takes over every drama strand on BBC Radio 4 this week.
Set against the ferocious Battle of Stalingrad, this huge novel charts the fate of both a nation and a family in the turmoil of war and is increasingly hailed as the most important Russian novel of the 20th century. Its comparison of Stalinism with Nazism was considered by Soviet authorities to be so dangerous that the manuscript itself was arrested. Grossman died in 1964, never knowing that his book would be smuggled to the West and eventually published in 1980.
In this first episode, dramatised for radio by Mike Walker, the Shaposhnikov family are about to feel the full impact of the war.
Viktor, a nuclear physicist, is evacuated with his family from Moscow eastwards to Kazan. It's October 1942 and the Russians are defending Stalingrad from the ferocious attack of the Germans. Viktor (Branagh) has a revelatory breakthrough in his research but his wife Lyuda (Scacchi) learns of the death of her son and her grief drives a wedge between the couple: Viktor is drawn to the kindness of Marya, the wife of his close colleague.
Original music is by John Hardy with Rob Whitehead and performed by Oliver Wilson-Dickson, Tom Jackson, Stacey Blythe and Max Pownall.
Producer and Director/Alison Hindell for the BBC

Own DT's Hat & Poncho!

Our friend Llia works at Absolute and happens to be the original owner of the very natty hat and poncho that Mr Tennant can be seen modelling above!
Well now you could be the owner of the said outfit! Personlly we can't think of a better outfit to saunter along the streets in this autumn.
Place your bid here!

Llia says:
Earlier today (Friday 2 September,) David Tennant came in to co-host The Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show. Yesterday, the producer of the show, a chap called Greg, asked around to see if any of us in the office had any funny costumes laying around. I had a poncho and hat set stashed in my desk, from a silly work escapade. (As an aside - I quite liked to wear the poncho and hat, especially when I felt a bit down. I've included a picture of me wearing it a few months ago. As you can see, it's very brightly coloured, very cheering.) So anyway. Greg asked if he could borrow them for DT's visit, naturally that was fine. I'm not adverse to allowing attractive men to borrow my clothes. I didn't realise that Tennant would be wearing it when they slapped him with raw fish. It smells a tiny bit fishy, and a bit musty from living in my desk. If you were watching the live webcast, you will have seen that he wiped his hands on it. There are more photos of DT's visit, plus video soon, at http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/breakfastIn fact - here is the video of him wearing the poncho and being slapped with the fish: http://www.absoluteradio.co.uk/player/9145/david_tennant__fish_face_friday_.htmlI don't expect that this will sell for much, but now that it contains the scent of raw fish, I don't really want it living in my desk any more. Seems a shame to just bin it though.
