Broadcasting Press Guild Awards Announced Today: Twenty Twelve Nominated

The 39th Broadcasting Press Guild Awards will be presented at a lunchtime ceremony later today at One Whitehall Place in Central London. BBC Two Comedy series Twenty Twelve has been nominated in the best Comedy / Entertainment category.

Spoof fly-on-the-wall documentary series Twenty Twelve, created by John Morton for the BBC, follows the trials of the Olympic Deliverence Committee as they battle bureaucracy, red tape, PR hype and general incompetence in the run up to the 2012 London Olympic Games. Hugh Bonneville, Jessica Hynes and Olivia Colman star with David Tennant providing the voiceover. The two other nominees in the category are Fresh Meat  and The Thick Of It.

The BPG Television and Radio Awards recognise outstanding programmes and performances seen or heard in the preceding year. The awards, which are sponsored by the Discovery Channel, are highly prized by programme-makers because they are selected independently by journalists who write about TV and radio – correspondents, critics and previewers. The awards lunch will be attended by the winners, BPG members and leading broadcasting executives.
