David Tennant Scores Highly In Poll For Who Sun Readers Want As The Twelfth Doctor

Readers of tabloid newspaper The Sun have voted Benedict Cumberbatch their favourite actor to take over the TARDIS and become the Twelfth Doctor if and when current Doctor Matt Smith hangs up his bow tie. Rather more surprising is the fact that David Tennant is second favourite for the role, despite playing the Tenth Doctor with just ten votes less than Benedict.
Other actors those quizzed would like to see in the role include James Corden, who has of course already starred in the show as Craig Owens, Miranda Hart and Laurence Fox.
Sean Pertwee, Rafe Spall, David Harewood, Alex Jennings and Rory Kinnear also received the seal of approval from fans.

Top 5
1. Benedict Cumberbatch
2. David Tennant
3. James Corden
4. Miranda Hart
5. Laurence Fox

Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday with Matt Smith and Jenna Louise Coleman.

  1. Honestly, i would love it if David Tennant came back as the doctor SOMEHOW. Best Doctor thus far...

    1. Damien Molony would be good as 12th doctor, has a similar style to Tennant with his emotions

    2. They didn't poll enough people cause everyone that wasn't polled would say David Tennant.

  2. Perfect way to bring Tennant back:

    Smith: Regenerates
    -Tennant appears-
    Tennant: What...what...WHAT!?

    1. My favorite David line! It would be awesome, and I have no doubt they could find a way to pull it off...some sort of regressive regeneration maybe?

    2. Exactly what I thought. Another idea would be to have the Daleks capture The Doctor (finally), experiment on his physiology to find out what makes his regeneration ability work. The Doctor has his past selves' DNA stored in his memory, and the Daleks trigger his regeneration cycle, while using the previous genetic structure as a template.

  3. With "Doctor Who", bringing David back would be no problem; just get Matt Smith into a spin and when he stopped, it would be David!!!

  4. I could see David Tennant come back as the Doctor if they stick to the old series rule of the Doctor having a limited number of regenerations. Perhaps there could be an episode in which Matt Smith's Doctor somehow "degenerates" to Tennants Doctor a la some "strange temporal event." Time could turn back and doctor number 11 becomes doctor number ten again. The only problem that I see might be the paradox created by his interactions with River Song, although I'm sure that that would only be the tip of the iceberg.

    1. Maybe somehow Rose appears at the moment of his regeneration and evokes such a strong emotional response in the Doctor that 10 comes back.

  5. Another thought, along the lines Mr. Whittington suggested, could be when the Master aged the Doctor to Runt Sized at the end of Series 3 and he (The Doctor) used the faith of the people to return to normal, that act could have 'reset' his regeneration cycle altogether. (It also could have imprinted the 10th incarnation into the people's minds so much that when 11th regenerates into 12, the faith of the people brings back the 10th).

The only reason the 11th popped out and not a 'rebirth' of 10 was he was too far from Earth when he regenerated for the will of the people to matter.

It might also explain the unusually long regeneration time, too.

    Just a few thoughts.

    Cheers.

  6. Remember the time The Doctor regenerated back into Tom Baker? Or Jon Pertwee?

Oh, wait, no... I've actually watched the show and know that the Doctor does not regenerate into a past form just because fangirls/fanboys can't handle change.

Get on with it. David is gone. He will not regenerate into Tennant again. If you can't handle the fact that a previous Doctor actor is gone, stop watching the show. You are not Who fans, you are Tennant fans.

    1. I have seen almost the whole show, Christopher and Tennant was best, Tennant become my doctor..
I like Matt and Amy's time but still he is a "bit wrong".

Do you have a fav doctor or are you a whovian who must tell others how they shall worship the show? ^^

  7. i think seeing a female doctor would be a nice change

    1. No, it's just wrong.
He is regenerate him self, not changing his entire DNA.

A female doctor is just as wrong as a female frodo or a female Sherlock Holmes.

    2. 100% agree with you Malin.Female doctor.Ugh! But tennant back...thumbs up! David Tennant is the essence of Dr. Who show.Funny, smart, inteligent , charismatic ...the perfect doctor. Nothing against Matt Smith , he is fine, but it is not the same feeling. You can watch Matt as Dr Who, but you really "feel" David as Dr.Who, you want to travel with him, you want to be the companion and see other worlds. ok, I confess, I´m a Tennant whovian...

  8. Honestly for god's sake be serious about this. Benedict, yes. I can see him doing something like this, but it's going to be a stretch what with him playing Sherlock and whizzing around doing all of the Star Trek things (assuming he's going back for further films, but he's an actor highly in demand).

Tennant, just no! His days are gone and as much as I adored his Doctor, how much would you be willing to risk his reputation with a return? Especially since - in my honest opinion - the plot writing hasn't been what it once was with Russell T. Davies at the helm, he really brought Ten into his own.

Miranda & James Cordon seriously? I would stop watching.

Lawrence Fox looks alright. But I haven't seen any of his work so I can't judge yet.

    1. Benedict plays the bad guy in the new Star Trek. You probably needn't worry about him reprising roles.

    1. that wouldn't work, he's already got a place in the Whoniverse...he was Jack's partner in the Time Agency.
