ABC1 will be revealing the identity of the Twelfth Doctor live to Australian audiences in a simulcast of the TV special Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor live from London. The big reveal will occur at 4am on the morning of Monday 5th August.

In a live special event, the next Doctor will be exclusively revealed. Widely regarded as one of the most hotly contested roles in TV, the show's host Zoe Ball will unveil the 12th Doctor in front of a live studio audience.

The show will also feature guest appearances from past Doctors and companions and from celebrity fans of the show. Outgoing Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith will be interviewed as will current showrunner Steven Moffat.
Speculation on Matt Smith's replacement has been frenzied following his announcement that he would be stepping down from the role at Christmas. Current favourites to pick up the TARDIS keys are Peter Capaldi, Daniel Rigby, David Harewood and Ben Daniels. Steven Moffat has not ruled out the possibility of a female Doctor.
