Illuminations To Blog Weekly About Richard II: Live From Stratford-Upon-Avon

John Wyver of Illuminations has started a weekly blog on the preparations for the Royal Shakespeare Company's first foray into live cinema streams of its stage productions - Richard II: Live From Stratford-Upon-Avon. The production, starring David Tennant, will be broadcast live from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre into cinemas across the UK on Wednesday 13th November. Although not strictly an Illuminations production, Wyver will be producing the event for the RSC.

The live stream will be followed by a number of encore screenings and also a live stream into UK schools on Friday 15th November, which will also incorporate a live Q&A session with David Tennant and director Gregory Doran. In addition, the play will be streamed to locations across the world, including the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Japan, Russia and Northern Europe - details of participating screens will be released soon.

This week, film production company Dusthouse started work on a trailer for the production and the cinema stream and there will be a weekly online 'production diary'.

Rehearsals for William Shakespeare's  Richard II, which also stars Nigel Lindsay, Michael Pennington and Oliver Ford Davies, begin in two weeks.

John Wyver says of the new production: "Greg Doran and David Tennant last worked together on the 2008 Hamlet for the RSC, a production which Illuminations filmed, with Greg directing, for BBC Television  in 2009….The intention of all of us involved in both the screen and the stage production of Richard II is that this will be just as memorable."
