Richard II Updates: Rehearsal Start Date And Live Screening Progress

Rehearsals for the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of William Shakespeare's Richard II start on Tuesday 27th August. Illuminations writer and producer John Wyver has today confirmed the date on his weekly blog which focuses for the preparations to bring the play starring David Tennant to the stage and to cinema screens worldwide as part of the Live From Stratford-upon-Avon broadcast.

John also confirms that the production has an onscreen host for Live From Stratford-upon-Avon and that shooting of the trailer has now been completed (Dusthouse spent a number of days last week in locations including the Lake District to film the trailer)

The RSC's new artistic director Gregory Doran will direct David Tennant as King Richard in the production which opens at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on 10th October. The cast also includes Nigel Lindsay as Bolingbroke, Oliver Ford Davies as the Duke of York and Michael Pennington as John of Gaunt. The production transfers to the Barbican in London from 9th December.

The play will be filmed and streamed live into cinemas across the UK on Wednesday 13th November, with further screenings into UK schools and into cinemas worldwide.
