The Royal Shakespeare Company have posted the tenth in their series of video diaries documenting the process behind bringing their production of Richard II to the stage.
This week, designer Stephen Brimson Lewis talks how he came to develop the striking, minimalist set.
"The overall concept for the production really grew out of a response to the space as much as anything else," he explains. "It's quite a unique space in that the actors are thrust right into the centre of the building and right amongst the audience." Along with Greg Doran's wish that the height of the building was also exploited, the designer incorporates projections, lighting and mechanics to create the world of Richard II in which the company works.

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon until
16th November 2013. It transfers to the Barbican in London on 9th December where it plays
until 25th January 2014.
