The Day Of The Doctor Draws Record Viewers To BBC America



Viewing figures reveal that the Saturday broadcasts of the Day Of The Doctor on BBC America brought in record viewing figures for the network.

The original simulcast broadcast at 2.50pm ET averaged 2.4 million viewers. The evening repeat put on more than a million more giving a total of 3.6m.

Another record was set on the Doctor Who Tumblr site on Saturday where there were 14.5 million views, more than any other televised event, including the Super Bowl and the MTV Video Music Awards.

The episode also screened in US theatres where it sold out in 11 cities nationally.

In the UK, The Day Of The Doctor was watched by 10.6m viewers on Saturday and ranked third in the weekend cinema box office table. 

The special episode saw Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor joining forces with his earlier incarnations played by David Tennant and John Hurt to resolve a significant moment in the Doctor's timeline. The special also featured Billie Piper, Jenna Coleman, Joanna Page and Jemma Redgrave.
