The incredible online celebrity auction raising funds for the Anno's Africa charity goes live today. The sale includes some amazing celebrity items, including donations from Joanna Lumley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry, Tom Hanks and Sir Elton John and many more. David Tennant has autographed a script from the final episode of the award-winning ITV series Broadchurch.
Anno's Africa aims to offer an alternative arts education to orphans and vulnerable children in Africa’s city slums. Every year the charity provides an eight-week programme of workshops in the Nairobi slums of Kibera and Mathare, covering art, drama, music, dance, creative writing and circus skills. The workshops not only give children the chance to experience play and creative opportunities that they might otherwise miss out on, they also teach valuable life skills and build confidence to give more opportunities of finding work in the future. The charity was set up in memory of Anno Birkin, the son of photographer Bee Gilbert and screenwriter Andrew Birkin, a gifted writer and musician who died in a car crash in 2001, one month short of his 21st birthday.
