What We Did On Our Holiday Wins Spanish Film Festival Award

The 59th Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci) drew to a close in Spain yesterday, and the BBC Films feature What We Did On Our Holiday was an award winner at the closing ceremony presentation. The black comedy stars David Tennant, Rosamund Pike and Billy Connolly and had been screened during the festival as part of the official selection.

Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, the writing and directing team behind What We Did On Our Holiday collected the Audience Award, sponsored by newspaper El Norte de Castilla, from  the journal’s editor Carlos Aganzo.

The pair had also been nominated for the Pilar Miró Prize for Best New Director, but lost out to Damien Chazelle for his film Whiplash.

A Special Jury Mention was given to all of the child actors who appeared in the films featuring in the festival programme, including the three young stars of What We Did On Our Holiday, Emilia Jones, Bobby Smalldridge and Harriet Turnbull.

What We Did On Our Holiday
Doug and Abi (David Tennant and Rosamund Pike) are two normal parents with three charming but highly eccentric children. When the strain of parental life threatens their sanity and marriage, they decide to take their kids on a trip to Scotland for a big family gathering and to see Doug’s incomparably kooky father Gordie (Billy Connolly). However what promised to be a holiday of reconciliation soon turns into an hilarious social minefield as feuds, misunderstandings and bruised egos become the order of the day. When the children cause a completely unexpected turn of events, the family are forced to put aside their differences and work together or else risk losing what they hold most dear.

The film was released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 26th September 2014, and has grossed nearly £3.5 million in the month since its release. What We Did on Our Holiday (Nuestro último verano en Escocia) will be released in cinemas in Spain on 17th April 2015. The film is to be distributed by A Contracorriente Films. There are also releases on the way for Germany, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
