The Future Of Gracepoint: Have FOX Execs Already Cancelled The Show?

Speculation has begun that FOX TV have already made the decision to cancel their ten-part limited series Gracepoint. The murder mystery starring David Tennant and Anna Gunn has been dogged with low ratings since its launch at the start of October.

Although FOX have yet to make a formal statement on the status of the show, they have chosen to use the term 'Series Finale' rather than 'Season Finale' on publicity for next week's concluding episode. Rumours were further fueled by the announcement this week that the production company were selling off the remaining sets, props and costumes that were being held in storage on Vancouver Island in readiness for a second season if needed. Ratings for the show have been disappointing. They dropped after the first week to hover around the 0.7-0.8 mark, although this week, with the finale in sight, they climbed to 0.9/3 in adults 18-49. The show has also been performing well in catch up viewings.

FOX could state that as a limited series, only ten episodes of Gracepoint were ever planned (although there was talk of the possibility of a second series at the TCA panel earlier this year) and therefore they are simply taking the option not to renew the show.

Gracepoint concludes on Thursday 11th December at 9pm ET on FOX in the USA and on Global in Canada. Viewers in Australia can watch on Friday 12th December at 8.30pm on the Universal Channel.
