UK: Mansfield Park Audiobook Starring David Tennant & Benedict Cumberbatch Released Today

Today sees the release of a CD version of the full cast dramatisation of Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. Recorded in 2003, the production features David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch as brothers. The series was recently rebroadcast on BBC Radio 4 Extra to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of the classic novel.

Mansfield Park
Fanny Price, played by Felicity Jones, is one of nine children born to a family in financial difficulties. She is sent to be raised by her wealthy uncle and aunt, Sir Thomas and Lady Bertram, but her life there is not as she would wish. David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch play brothers Tom and Edmund, sons of the Bertrams, and cousins to Fanny. Of the two, Tom is the profligate gambler and character of ill-repute, but it is towards the gentle and kind Edmund that Fanny is drawn and with whom she forms a romantic attachment.

Mansfield Park was directed by Sally Avens and was originally broadcast in ten episodes on BBC Radio 4 in the Woman's Hour Drama slot. Other cast includes Tim Pigott-Smith, Susan Lynch, Toby Jones and Julia McKenzie
