UNCONFIRMED: Will Broadchurch Return For A Third Series?

The second series of the award winning TV drama Broadchurch hasn't even aired yet, but already rumours are circulating that a third has already been commissioned.

According to The Sun (account required), Chris Chibnall is already in the process of writing series three which, it is claimed, will begin shooting in July 2015 in the West Country. In the past the writer has said that he originally conceived of Broadchurch as a trilogy of stories.

The second series of the BAFTA-winning drama is due to debut on ITV in January. David Tennant and Olivia Colman will return in their roles as Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, alongside Arthur Darvill, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Joe Sims, Carolyn Pickles and Jonathan Bailey. Joining them will be Charlotte Rampling, Eve Myles, James D'Arcy, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Meera Syal and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The plot has been a closely guarded secret but teaser trailers have suggested that the story will pick up not long after the end of series one.

No confirmation of a third series has been given by ITV, Kudos or Chris Chibnall himself.
