David Tennant Cast As Marvel Supervillain Killgrave In Netflix Series Jessica Jones

It looks like there's some all-over spray painting ahead for David Tennant as Marvel Studios have announced today that he is to play supervillain Zebediah Killgrave, otherwise known as 'The Purple Man' in the Netflix series AKA Jessica Jones

In the original Marvel stories, Yugoslavian born Killgrave was accidentally exposed to an experimental nerve gas which left him with the abilty to produce pheromones that can control the minds of others. However, the gas permanently coloured his hair and skin purple, earning him his nickname.

The thirteen-episode series will star Krysten Ritter as the eponymous former superhero who opens her own detective agency for cases involving ordinary people and those with special powers. Killgrave is a figure from Jones' past whose past control of her was the trauma that led her to quit the superhero life. The series is being developed by Melissa Rosenberg, who said of David's casting, "I’m so honoured and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character. He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain."

Jeph Loeb, Executive Producerand Marvel’s Head of Television added “Anyone familiar with David's work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Kilgrave. While most know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.”

David and Krysten will be joined in the cast by Mike Colter who plays Luke Cage.

The show will premiere later in 2015. Details of the shooting schedule and premiere date have yet to be released but the series will follow Marvel's first Netflix series Daredevil which begins in April.

Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
