FRANCE: Broadchurch 2 Will Return 'As Soon As Possible'

Thierry Thuillier, the director of TV channel France 2 has assured French viewers that the second series of Broadchurch will begin as soon as possible. However fans of the show may have to wait for the French adaptation of the series to air first. The new series, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, launched in the UK and Ireland on Monday.

Talking to puremedias.com he confirmed that the series would return to France 2 after the first season earned the channel its biggest audiences of last year.

"To be honest, we hope to offer it as soon as possible because we are conscious that people are waiting," he said. "But we must wait for the UK broadcast to finish in order to to see the potential of this second season and to start dubbing into French. That can happen quickly. And we need to make a judgement on the French adaptation that we are making whether we choose to broadcast the second series of the original before or after the remake."

The second series of Broadchurch sees David Tennant and Olivia Colman return as Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, the detective team that hunted the killer of a local schoolboy in a small town. With the killer now in captivity, the new series explores the continuing effects of the shocking reveal, while for Hardy and Miller another case presents itself. The eight part series also sees the return of Arthur Darvill, Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, joined by new cast members Eve Myles, Charlotte Rampling and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

The French remake of Broadchurch is called Malaterra and is being shot in Corsica. Little has been revealed about the plot and how closely it will follow the UK original, but David Tennant has said that it's an intelligent adaptation.
"I know they have done something very clever," he said.
