David Tennant At Wizard World Raleigh: Rose Was The Doctor's Girlfriend

David Tennant confirmed what many Doctor Who fans hoped was true - that the Doctor and Rose Tyler were more than just travelling companions. Rose, played by Billy Piper, stepped aboard the TARDIS with the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) and stayed on board for two seasons before being forcibly parted from David Tennant's Tenth Doctor at the end of Doomsday.

It was about partings from companions that David was talking when he made the statement, during his first Q&A panel at Wizard World Comic Con Raleigh over the weekend. Asked whether he had found parting from Rose or Donna (Catherine Tate) more traumatic, his first answer was more diplomatic.

"The hardest one to say goodbye to has to be Wilfred Mott, doesn’t it?" he said. "Because it was his fault, frankly. And because it’s very hard to look at Bernard Cribbins and not feel moved."

Moving on to Rose and Donna he said, "They’re very different. They were both love stories but they were very different types of love story, weren’t they? Because one was the best mate, and one was a girlfriend, really... I know we don’t say it but she sort of was."

"What was tragic about the Donna one was that he had to remove all that joy from her, take all those wonderful experiences. I think that was the tragedy of that goodbye," he added "The tragedy of the goodbye for Rose of course was that they could never see each other again. Until they did..."

He also considered the question of handing over Rose to the care of Ten.2. "How appalling to watch someone who looks like you, who basically is you, get to do all the shagging that you didn't get to do!"

Fortunately for fans, the Doctor and Rose are set to be reunited once again as David and Billie will be appearing together at Wizard World Comic Con Philadelphia in May. Click here for details.
