National Film Awards Announced Tonight - What We Did On Our Holiday Nominated

The winners of the inaugural National Film Awards are announced tonight at a ceremony at the Porchester Hall in London tonight. What We Did On Our Holiday, last year's hit BBC Films black comedy starring David Tennant, Rosamund Pike and Billy Connolly, is nominated as Best Comedy.

The National Film Awards are presented by the National Film Academy which was set up in 2011. The annual awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of established and independent film makers, actors, casting directors, production companies and crew who make up the motion picture industry. Similar events also take place in the USA, South America, Africa and Australia.

Nominations for the National Film Awards were submitted by the public during December. The winners were decided by public votes through the National Film Academy website. The full shortlist for the Best Comedy category is:

  • What We Did On Our Holiday

The category is sponsored by Tresor Paris who are also promising exclusive pictures and exclusive interviews straight from the red carpet with the stars as they arrive and backstage. Hosts include Keith Chegwin, Caprice and Danny John-Jules. Dame Judi Dench is set to receive Lifetime Achievement Award tonight and in Idris Elba will be presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Motion Picture Award. The ceremony will be broadcast on Sky 192 on the 12th April.

What We Did On Our Holiday follows a family in the middle of an acrimonious divorce as they temporarily put their differences aside to travel to Scotland to celebrate the birthday of an elderly and unwell relative. But although the parents plan to keep news of their split a secret, their three lively children have other ideas. The movie is created by the team behind the award-winning BBC sitcom Outnumbered.
