PHOTOS: David Tennant's First Official Doctor Who Photoshoot #ThrowbackThursday

Ten years ago today, Doctor Who returned to UK TV screens following a lengthy hiatus. The first episode saw Christopher Eccleston as the ninth incarnation of the Time Lord joining forces with companion Rose played by Billie Piper to face an old foe in the form of the Nestene Consciousness.

However, what viewers did not realise as they sat down to watch the first episode, Rose, was that Eccleston would not be returning after that series. Not only that, his replacement had already been lined up. Showrunners Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner had already offered the role to David Tennant, the star of their acclaimed miniseries Casanova.

David appeared in the final moments of the series closing episode The Parting Of The Ways, before taking the lead in his first full episode The Christmas Invasion on Christmas Day.

During 2005, David and Billie took part in their first official photoshoot together as the Tenth Doctor and his companion.
