FRANCE & ITALY: Broadchurch Premiere Audience Numbers



The second series of Broadchurch premiered on TV in both France and Italy last night. David Tennant and Olivia Colman returned in the roles of Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller as the small town of Broadchurch anticipated the conviction of murderer Joe Miller. However, the outcome wasn't as expected for Mark and Beth Latimer (Andrew Buchan and Jodie Whittaker) and there will be more grief ahead as the case goes to full trial. Meanwhile, Hardy asks Ellie's help in a mystery that has continued to haunt him. New cast members include Eve Myles, James D'Arcy, Charlotte Rampling and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

France
The first three episodes aired last night on France 2. Episode 1 was viewed by 5.65 million viewers, an audience share of 20.5%. This was down on the series 1 opening figure of 6.7 million, but still helped France 2 retain second place in the ratings for the 9pm slot. Episode 2 was viewed by 5.25m (19.8%) and episode 3 by 4.56m (22.4%). The 9pm slot winner was the French series Camping Paradis on TF1 with 5.95m (22.3% share). 

In the early hours of Monday morning, starting from 0.05, France 2 re-ran the entire first series of Broadchurch. Starting at 300,000 viewers (6.8% share), the marathon came to dominate the overnight TV ratings and the final parts were watched by an average share of 26.1%.

Italy
In Italy Broadchurch was broadcast to a smaller audience via the Sky TV channel Giallo. The first two episodes were also simulcast on male-orientated channel DMAX and the female-focused Real Time. The episodes were watched by 488,000 viewers, a 1.9% audience share.
