Today's Throwback Thursday post is a selection of photos of David Tennant in the 1999 production of Vassa at the Albery Theatre. David starred in the play as Pavel, the Daily Telegraph review said at the time "David Tennant is flesh-creepingly horrible as the crippled Pavel - you know you ought to feel sorry for the hunchbacked little nerd but his snivelling self-pity repels all sympathy."
Also starring in the play were Shelia Hancock as Vassa, Anne Marie Duff as Lyudmill and Ron Cook as Prokhor.
David Tennant will be joining stars Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie in the new Focus Features and Working Title movie, Mary, Queen Of Scots. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Josie Rourke, the artistic director at the Donmar Warehouse, who also directed David in the 2011 stage production of Much Ado About Nothing.
David plays an as yet undisclosed character in the film which follows the early life of Mary Stuart, who became Queen of France at 16 and a widow aged 18. It will also explore her relationship with Elizabeth I, rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a
masculine world. Mary's claim to the English throne, her determination to rule as more than a figurehead is a threat to Elizabeth's sovereignty.
Martin Compston plays Mary's third husband, the Earl of Bothwell, and the cast also includes Jack Lowden, Joe Alwyn and Guy Pearce.
Mary, Queen Of Sots began shooting this week and is scheduled for release in 2018.
Big news broke in the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier this week when it was revealed that David Tennant would be returning to the role of Kilgrave for Season 2 of Marvel's Jessica Jones. The new season has been filming in New York for several months already, but David was recently spotted on set with co-stars Krysten Ritter and Eka Darville.
Season One of the show saw former superhero Jessica Jones trying to lead a low key life as a private detective in New York's Hell's Kitchen following a traumatic experience at the hands of Kilgrave, a man with the power of mind control. Those who have already watched the show will have seen how Jessica dealt with her tormentor, so the new scenes have raised many questions for fans of the series. Marvel, however, are keeping tight lipped about David's involvement, so it looks like we'll all have to wait until Season 2 hits Netflix in early 2018 to find out!
