The award-winning series Broadchurch comes to Poland at last later this month when Ale Kino+ premieres the UK crime drama from July 19th. The channel will broadcast both seasons back to back on Sunday evenings until September.
Broadchurch stars David Tennant and Olivia Colman as mismatched detectives working together to solve a brutal crime. The small coastal UK town of Broadchurch is a peaceful place until the body of eleven-year old Danny Latimer, a local boy, is found on the beach below cliffs. When it's discovered that he was strangled, a murder investigation opens that tears the town apart. Everyone in the neighbourhood knew Danny and his family, but, it seems, everyone in the neighbourhood has something to hide. The crime attracts the attention of the press who not only harass the distraught family but also affect the investigation. Detective Alec Hardy (David Tennant), newly arrived in town and difficult to work with, leads the hunt for the boy's killer. He is partnered with Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman), a local police sergeant who had hoped for promotion into the post that Hardy stepped into and who is best friends with the victim's mother. The drama looks beyond the murder mystery and explores the widen impact of the crime on the victim's family and his community. When the series premiered in the UK the whole nation was gripped, while the cast themselves revealed that even they had not known the identity of the killer until they came to film the final episode.
The production has won a number of awards including the 2014 BAFTA in three categories: for Best Drama Series, Best Female Leading Actress for Olivia Colman and Best Supporting Actor for David
Bradley. Olivia Colman was also
nominated for an International Emmy for the role. The cast also includes Arthur Darvill, Jodie Whittaker, Vicky McClure and Andrew Buchan. In the second season, which premiered in the UK earlier this year, they are joined by legend of cinema Charlotte Rampling, plus Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Eve Myles and James D'Arcy. Broadchurch has also inspired international remakes Gracepoint in the USA (which also starred David Tennant) and Malaterra in France
The series launches with a double episode on Sunday 19th July with subsequent episodes airing on Sunday nights from 20.10 until September 6th.
