New David Tennant Movie Seeks Buyers At TIFF

Metanoia, the new biopic about renowned Scottish psychiatrist RD Laing, is one of many titles on the distribution market at the Toronto International Film Festival, now in progress in Canada.

David Tennant stars as Laing in the feature, written and directed by Robert Mullan, which goes into production next year. As we previously reported, other cast will include Elisabeth Moss, Michael Gambon, David Bamber, Olivia Poulet and Adam Paul Harvey. Shooting on the project begins in January and continues during the first quarter of 2016 at MMC’s studios in Cologne and on location in London. Charlotte Arden and Harriet Hammond are producing for Gizmo Films and Bad Penny Productions and the executive producers are Phin Glynn and Peter Dunphy.

The film will be set in the 1960s and will tell the story of Laing and his unique community at Kingsley Hall in East London. In 1965, Laing and a group of colleagues created the Philadelphia Association and started a psychiatric community project at Kingsley Hall, where patients and therapists lived together. He was often criticised for his techniques, which included the occasional use of the drug LSD. The title of the film, Metanoia, refers to Laing's belief in self healing.

Worldwide sales rights for the film have been acquired by Double Dutch International who are currently hoping to attract distribution deals for cinema and digital release for the project.

Metanoia is scheduled for a late 2016 release.
