Gabriel Byrne Joins David Tennant In R.D. Laing Biopic

Variety are reporting that Irish actor Gabriel Byrne (Quirke, The Usual Suspects) is the latest name to be added to the growing cast of Metanoia

The new feature film, written and directed by Robert Mullan, will tell the story of radical Scottish psychologist R.D.Laing. David Tennant has already been announced in the role of the so-called 'Acid-Marxist' Laing, whose work revolutionised the understanding of mental illness and led the anti-psychiatry movement. The film co-stars Elisabeth Moss, star of Mad Men and The West Wing, and Michael Gambon, known worldwide as Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies.

Other cast members include David Bamber (Rome, Doctor Who), Olivia Poulet (The Thick Of It) and Adam Paul Harvey (Where The Heart Is).

It has also been announced that distributors Double Dutch International are launching international sales at the American Film Market which opened yesterday in Santa Monica.

Metanoia is a co-production between Gizmo Films and German production company MMC Studios. The movie will cover Laing's ground-breaking work carried out during the 1960s at his unique and controversial community at Kingsley Hall in East London. Filming will begin in January 2016 in London and Cologne with the movie currently scheduled for a 2016 release.
