VIDEO - Previews Of Inside Einstein's Mind: The Enigma Of Space & Time Narrated By David Tennant - Tonight On BBC Four

The BBC have released a pair of preview clips from the new documentary Inside Einstein's Mind; The Enigma Of Space And Time which makes its UK debut on BBC Four tonight at 9pm GMT. The hour long programme narrated by David Tennant explores the process through which Albert Einstein developed his theory of general relativity, 100 years ago this year.

In the first clip, the young Einstein explores the clash between the theories of Isaac Newton and James Clark Maxwell and makes the first steps to devising his own theory of relativity.

In the second clip, Professor Robbert Dijkgraaf helps us visualise the brilliant concept at the heart of Einstein’s theory of general relativity by imagining ourselves as spaghetti strands moving in spacetime!

Inside Einstein's Mind: The Enigma Of Space And Time
BBC Four, 9.00pm GMT
The story of the most elegant and powerful theory in science - Albert Einstein's general relativity.

When Einstein presented his formidable theory in November 1915, it turned our understanding of gravity, space and time completely on its head. Over the last 100 years, general relativity has enabled us to trace the origins of the universe to the Big Bang and to appreciate the enormous power of black holes.

To mark the 100th anniversary of general relativity, this film takes us inside the head of Einstein to witness how his idea evolved, giving new insights into the birth of a masterpiece that has become a cornerstone of modern science. This is not as daunting as it sounds - because Einstein liked to think in pictures. The film is a magical visual journey that begins in Einstein's young mind, follows the thought experiments that gave him stunning insights about the physical world, and ultimately reaches the extremes of modern physics.

Inside Einstein's Mind; The Enigma Of Space And Time is written, produced and directed by Jamie Lochhead for Windfall Films and stars Hamza Ripley as the young Albert Einstein.
