WORLD PREMIERE: David Tennant Contributes To Scottish Celebration Of Shakespeare 'Dream On!' Tonight

David Tennant has pre-recorded a piece of Shakespearean text that will be incorporated into a special live streamed production in celebration the William Shakespeare 400th Anniversary event.

Dream On! is a collaboration between the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (David's former drama school), Glasgow University, the Glasgow School of Art and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra inspired by Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Over the last six months hundreds of young performers, composers, dancers, designers, film makers, sound and light designers and technicians, dramaturgs and professional musicians have worked together to create all aspects of the production from the music and performance to garments and other wearables, digital and interaction design elements on the main stage, and the brand identity. Dream On! will take place on the evening of Saturday 23 April 2016 in the magnificent setting of the University of Glasgow and will be streamed online by the BBC to audiences across the UK.

The audience will be treated to a promenade production in which music and performance combine with digital installation to create a dream-like world for a contemporary take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

The production includes new musical compositions and interpretations through dance, drama, film and sign language, while students from the School of Art have created a range of dazzling costumes. The event will be staged in the University of Glasgow’s Bute Hall from 7.00pm BST, directed and curated by Graham McLaren, currently Associate Director of The National Theatre of Scotland.

Dream On will be broadcast live from 7.00-8.00pm BST tonight on Shakespeare Day Live, a digital pop up channel co-curated by the BBC and the British Council and available to watch worldwide.
