BBFC Confirms 15 Certificate For Mad To Be Normal Starring David Tennant

The British Board of Film Classification has confirmed that Mad To Be Normal will be released under a 15 certificate in the UK. The 1960s-set movie follows the work of controversial psychiatrist R.D. Laing who challenged the medical model of the treatment of mental illness and set up a medication-free community in East London where mental health patients and practitioners lived alongside one another as equals. David Tennant stars as Laing; the cast also includes Elisabeth Moss, Michael Gambon, Gabriel Byrne and David Bamber.

The Board warns that the film includes strong language and scenes of drug misuse, sex, suicide and self-harm.

Mad To Be Normal will premiere as the closing gala of the 2017 Glasgow Film Festival on Sunday 26th February with stars David Tennant and Michael Gambon and writer / director Robert Mullan in attendance. The film is is then set for national release on Thursday 6th April. To date, the only confirmed screenings are for Glasgow, Inverness and Oxford. We'll post news of additional dates and any international screenings as we get it; you can check for updates here.
