DON JUAN IN SOHO: David Tennant Will Show Comedy Skills In 'Naughty But Nice' Play

Patrick Marber, the writer of David Tennant's next stage play, Don Juan In Soho, has said that he is looking forward to giving David full rein to his comic skills when the production opens next month. Patrick, is directing the revival of his own play at Wyndham's Theatre in London's West End with David in the lead role. He told the BBC of his star, "He's always a great comedian. When I met him 20 years ago, he was the best light comedian I'd ever seen at the time. This is an opportunity to give full rein to his comic skills."

Patrick also says that David's performance in his modern day update of Molière's 17th Century satirical comedy will show him as he has never been seen before, as a seducer who is hell-bent on pleasure, and couldn't care less about the consequences.

"It's a great part for him," he said. "I think it's going to be very funny and very rude. It's a part we haven't seen David play before, really. The man is an amoral hedonist, and is wicked. You love to hate him, and hate to love him - he's a real anti-hero."

Of the play, which transfers the characters of the original to modern day Soho and which has a reputation of being savagely funny and filthy, he said, "I think it's naughty but nice. I don't think it's shocking." Don Juan In Soho was originally performed in 2006 with Rhys Ifans in the role of DJ.

Don Juan In Soho opens at Wyndham's Theatre on March 17th and runs until June 10th. Tickets are available here
