AUDIO CLIP: David Tennant On Playing 'Compelling, Unknowable, Difficult' Laing In Mad To Be Normal

David Tennant was interviewed on the Janice Forsyth Show on BBC Radio Scotland yesterday afternoon, talking about his new film, Mad To Be Normal. David plays the notorious Glasgow psychiatrist R.D. Laing in the movie which explores one of Laing’s most controversial experiments: a medication-free community that he established at Kingsley Hall in London for patients with severe schizophrenia.

In the interview, recorded in Glasgow ahead of the Mad To Be Normal premiere in February, David talks to Siobhan Synott about his prior knowledge of Laing and his own portrayal of a "...compelling, unknowable and difficult to like..." man who was at once both nurturing and egotistical. Laing enraged the 1960s medical establishment but also changed the way in which people experiencing mental illnesses are treated today.

Mad To Be Normal was written and directed by Robert Mullan and also stars Elisabeth Moss, Michael Gambon and Gabriel Byrne. The film goes on national release in selected cinemas from Thursday 6th April. For screening dates and tickets please visit www.madtobenormalmovie.com
