VIDEO: David Tennant Supports Mental Health Awareness Week 2017

David Tennant has pledged his support for Mental Health Awareness Week 2017 via a short video posted by the Mental Health Foundation.

David recently starred in the movie Mad To Be Normal as revolutionary 1960s psychiatrist RD Laing, who challenged the dominant medical model of mental health, proposing a medication-free approach to mental health treatment. His pioneering work paved the way for many of the person-centred therapies and approaches that exist today.

Mental Health Awareness Week takes place the week of 8th-14th May with the theme of Surviving Or Thriving and aims to take a look at mental health from a different angle. Good mental health is more than the absence of a mental health problem. This means that far too few of us are thriving with good mental health and are instead struggling to cope and just get through the day. The aim of Mental Health Awareness Week is to ignite a national conversation about whether we are surviving or thriving and what we can do to bring about change, through steps to building personal resilience and urging the Government do more to to support communities under strain.

The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s charity for everyone’s mental health. To find out more about their work and support them please visit www.mentalhealth.org.uk

Mad To Be Normal is now screening in selected cinemas nationwide. Check for locations and buy tickets at www.madtobenormalmovie.com
