David Tennant On DuckTales: "We've Already Recorded Parts Of Season 2"

Disney fans young and old, eagerly awaiting the launch of all-new DuckTales on August 12th, were delighted to hear back in March that a second season has already been ordered by Disney XD. Now David Tennant, who voices Scrooge McDuck in the reboot of the classic cartoon, has revealed that work has already begun on Season 2.

David was talking to fans in the packed out Union Station Ballroom at the Wizard World Columbus fan convention yesterday when he was asked about his voice work on the series.

"We're so confident this show's going to be massive, we've already recorded parts of Season 2," he said. "I hope you like it...'cos there's loads of it!" He hasn't yet seen a finished episode himself, he added, "It might be terrible!" he joked. "No, it won't. I might be terrible, but it'll be very good."

Talking about the recording process David explained that he was usually alone in the recording booth and a long way and several time zones away from the director and other show creatives.

"All the DuckTales, I've done from London," he said. "So, I'm usually at the end of the day and there's people on Skype from California going 'Morning, it's 5am here!'"

He also revealed that the voice track is laid down before the animation starts, which poses some challenges for him as an actor.

"You're sort of standing in the dark a little bit because you do your voice before they do the pictures...you're trying to create this thing that's a bit of an imaginative leap because you don't know what they're going to do with it," he stated. "You're trying to act the whole thing with your voice. At the end of a session I'm usually quite sweaty and often quite rough in the throat because there's a lot of jeopardy in DuckTales. We'll do three or four episodes at once and they usually end with a lot of shouting...So you're trying to give the animators some options, you're trying to throw as much energy at it as you possibly can."

"August 12th!" David finally reminded fans. "They're showing the same episode all day [on Disney XD]. There'll be a 24 hour loop of the first episode of DuckTales, so you'd better really like it!"

DuckTales co-stars Danny Pudi as Huey, Ban Schwartz as Dewey, Bobby Moynihan as Louie, Kate Micucci as Webby, Toks Olagundoye as Mrs Beakley, Beck Bennett as Launchpad McQuack and Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck. Watch the launch episode, Woo-oo!, from midnight on Disney XD on August 12th in North America. New episodes premiere from September 23rd.
