David Tennant On HBO's Camping: "Walt Is Kind Of Me, Really"

Image
Last month, HBO staged at panel for their new limited series comedy Camping at the TCA Summer Press Tour in Beverley Hills. The show's creator Jenni Konner and star Jennifer Garner fielded questions from assembled American and Canadian entertainment journalists, ad were joined by David Tennant, appearing live by satellite from the UK. David plays the henpecked husband to Jennifer's hyper-controlling character. Camping is an eight part series based on the UK show of the same name, created by Julia Davis, which aired on Sky Atlantic.

Entertainment site Eurweb has posted some of David's comments from the panel:

On whether he deliberately chose the role to contrast with the psychopathic characters of Kilgrave and Cale Erendreich:
"No, I didn't. But then this came in and you go, oh well that's perfect because, you know, you can only play so many psychopaths without taking it home. So, it was lovely to play someone who's so sweet and open-hearted and long-sufferin…

FAN REACTION: David Tennant In Channel 4's Hang Ups

Image
Last night saw David Tennant's eagerly anticipated guest spot on Channel 4's critically acclaimed new comedy series Hang Ups.

Written by Robert Delamere and Stephen Mangan, Hang Ups is an unconventional comedy about an unconventional therapist trying to keep his life, and patients, from falling apart.

David guest starred as Martin Lamb, an eerie cloakroom attendant. Martin seeks Richard’s help when the pressure of leaving the cloak room to act as sommelier for the evening becomes too much for him. Perhaps some of Richard’s role-playing techniques might give him the confidence to step up...

And everyone was mightily impressed with David's Spider-Man impersonation on the show:

David gives an award-winning performance as the controversial Scottish psychiatrist RD Laing in the film which premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival last year.
The movie is based upon Laing's revolutionary work during the 1960s when he set up a medication-free treatment facility in London for people experiencing mental illness. The Kingsley Hall project allowed patients and medical staff to live alongside each other as equals and promoted talking therapies that encouraged patients to work through their psychosis. Although dismissed as dangerous by his peers at the time, Laing's methods went on to shape how mental health interventions are managed today.

GOOD OMENS: Neil Gaiman On The TV Show's Cameos & Expanded Story

Image
Good Omens writer Neil Gaiman has told Digital Spy that the TV adaptation of the cult novel is likely to be a standalone series - largely because it already includes many of the ideas that he and co-author Terry Pratchett had discussed for a possible sequel. The six-part series is a co-production between Amazon Video and BBC Studios, and stars David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as his angelic counterpart Aziraphale, who join forces to prevent the oncoming Apocalypse. Neil has adapted the novel for the screen and is also acting as showrunner.

One addition that fans of the book may have noticed, for instance, is the presence of the angel Gabriel, a character absent from the original novel. Neil explained, "I wound up drawing from the planned book follow-up for this, expanding into heaven and hell, and we have Jon Hamm as the angel Gabriel, and Gabriel is not in the book, but he and the other angels, and a bunch of the other demons, come from all the conversations …

Image
Ahead of the UK release of Bad Samaritan later this month, the film's star David Tennant and its creators Dean Devlin and Brandon Boyce have been talking to Starburst Magazine about the nailbiting thriller. Written by Boyce and produced and directed by Devlin, the film stars Robert Sheehan and Carlito Olivero as a pair of parking valets and petty criminals who stumble upon a terrifying secret during a break in. David turns in a chilling performance as Cale Erendreich, the psychopathic homeowner, who makes it his mission to destroy the lives of the hapless burglars. Bad Samaritan also stars Kerry Condon and Jacqueline Byers.

Here's some of what David had to say:

On why he wanted to play Cale:
"The character is tactical and calculating in his methods. I wanted to explore the dark side of human nature. When I read the script, I jumped at the chance to play him."
On how he prepared for the role: "He’s a psychopath without guilt or remorse. I read a lot of books on psycho…

Green Wing's Stephen Mangan stars as Dr. Richard Pitt, a therapist trying to relaunch his career after the disastrous collapse of his group therapy practice. His new form of therapy, carried out via weekly quick-fire webcam sessions, examines a hilariously outrageous catalogue of neuroses, phobias, issues, anxieties and psychopathies - and not all of them belong to his patients! When you add in teenage children, unconventional parents, an anally-fixated therapist and a high-flying wife (who has issues of her own - not the least of which is a perverse boss with a vivid fantasy life) then what hope does…
