Final Series Of Broadchurch Scoops Best Crime Drama At The NTAs

Broadchurch went out on a high this evening when the third and final series won Best Crime Drama at the National Television Awards. The live ITV audience saw Jodie Whittaker collect the award on behalf of series creator Chris Chibnall and her fellow cast members.

Series three sees Detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, played by David Tennant and Olivia Colman, tackling a new mystery that rocks the small seaside town of Broadchurch to its foundations. When a woman called Trish (Julie Hesmondhalgh) appears at the police station stating that she has been raped, the hunt is on for the perpetrator before he strikes again. The series also saw the return of Arthur Darvill, Carolyn Pickles and Andrew Buchan alongside new cast members Lenny Henry, Sarah Parish, Charlie Higson and Georgina Campbell.

Earlier in the evening, David Tennant was pipped to the Drama Performance award by Suranne Jones who was nominated for her role in Doctor Foster.

Other winners tonight include Peter Kay's Car Share (Comedy), David Walliams (TV Judge) and And & Dec (TV Presenter), while Paul O'Grady was the recipient of this years Special Recognition Award.
