David Tennant At The Bad Samaritan Press Day: "An Amazing Story And An Amazing Set Up"

David Tennant has attended the Bad Samaritan Press Day in Los Angeles today alongside his co-star Robert Sheehan, director Dean Devlin and writer Brandon Boyce. The thriller, which also stars Kerry Condon and Carlito Olivero, will be released in the USA and Canada on May 4th and in the UK on August 24th.

Thanks to writer and film pundit Patrick "PJ" Campbell, highlights from the panel are already online via the Californian entertainment site Social Thrills. Here's what David had to say about the film and his character Cale Erendreich:

  • He jumped at the chance to play Cale Erendreich because it was an amazing story, and an amazing set up, and a really bonkers character. While he wasn’t looking to play another psychotic character, he couldn’t pass on the chance to tackle Cale, and to explore those darker sides of the human psyche.
  • Usually he tries to find the empathy of the character that you’re playing but a character like Cale has none in his life.
  • He had no problem going between his character and then himself between takes in the film, which may have been a bit worrying. But to dabble in a character who has no guilt in a safe environment like a movie set is a bit of a giddy experience.
  • The Oregon winter snow storms gave the film a landscape for the finale that its budget could not have afforded to create
  • Cale’s weakness is probably his lack of self awareness of what he’s become. His past has left him incredibly broken and damaged, fatefully so, but he doesn’t believe that he is, and that it’s actually everyone around him who is.
  • The villain that utterly terrified him the most growing up was the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but he’ll leave it up to the audience to see if it influenced his performance in any way.
  • His and Robert’s favourite time on set was shooting the film’s finale, because it was when they got to spend the most time on set together
Director Dean Devlin added that he was a huge fan of both David Tennant and Robert Sheehan and that he was dying to work with them. Both were his first choice for their roles in Bad Samaritan. David’s first day on set was his favourite of the film, because it was just so special to have him on set that night.

Bad Samaritan is a terrifying cautionary tale of two thieves uncovering more than what they bargained for when breaking into a house they thought would be an easy score. After making a shocking discovery, they must choose to run and hide, or face the killer whose dark secrets they have exposed.
