GOOD OMENS: League Of Gentlemen Stars Join Cast Of BBC / Amazon Series

Mark Gatiss and Steve Pemberton have been added to the star-studded cast of Good Omens, an adaptation of the cult novel written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. They will be taking on the roles of mysterious book buyers Harmony and Glozier in the six part series which stars David Tennant as Crowley and Michael Sheen as Aziraphale, a demon and angel who join forces to prevent the oncoming Apocalypse.

Gatiss and Pemberton will join their League Of Gentlemen co-star in the cast list; Reece Shearsmith has already been announced as William Shakespeare. Also announced today is Holby City and Jamestown actress Niamh Walsh in the role of Rose.

The series is in the final weeks of its shoot and the cast and crew will continue to work on location around Cape Town, South Africa until early March.

Mark Gatiss said of his casting: “I’m delighted to be working with David and Michael again and of course with Steve - bringing a little film noir menace to such an exciting project. Being bad never felt so good!”

Steve Pemberton added: “To be asked to fly to Cape Town with Mark and meet up with old friends David and Michael working on a script from the genius mind of Neil Gaiman...? Well, you had me at Cape Town. Glozier and Harmony are a small piece of the jigsaw but hopefully one which will fit nicely into place”

And if you're a fan of the book and not familiar with the characters, author Neil Gaiman, who is also acting as scriptwriter and showrunner for the show explained: “Part of the joy of Good Omens is getting to see what our angel and demon have been doing during human history. And part of the joy as a writer is writing parts with specific actors in mind. Steve Pemberton was my only choice for Glozier and Harmony has to be Mark Gatiss, in a film noir interlude set in 1941...”

Good Omens is a commission for Amazon Prime Video and for BBC Two and is being produced by the comedy team at BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial production arm, Narrativia and The Blank Corporation, in association with BBC Worldwide. Other cast members include Jon Hamm playing the Archangel Gabriel, Miranda Richardson as Madame Tracy, Michael McKean as Shadwell, Jack Whitehall as Newt, Adria Arjona as Anathema Device, Anna Maxwell Martin as Beelzebub and Derek Jacobi as the Metatron. Good Omens is directed by Douglas Mackinnon and will launch globally on Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories in 2019 including in the UK, where it will also air on BBC Two at a later date.
