David Tennant Review Of The Year: April 2016

We continue our review of the year today with a look back at the month of April.

The month of April kicked off with the Press Night for Richard II which was still playing at BAM in Brooklyn, New York.
The reviews were universally positive with the New York Times saying: "Mr. Tennant speaks the verse with the elegant grace and clarity you would expect of an actor with his history."

David took part in a host of interviews with the US press about the play talking to the Joe D podcast, Observer Culture, and Newsweek.

It was coincidentally 20 years since David had made his debut with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

David marked his 45th birthday by appearing at an exclusive BAFTA New York event, In Conversation With David Tennant, in the city.  The event was part of a series held by BAFTA which focuses on the very best of British talent and was open only to members of BAFTA, but you can watch the full thing below:

He also appeared in Conversations With David Tennant for The SAG-AFTRA Foundation where he teased the audience with news that he'd got another voice role on the way, though stopped short of revealing the programme.
"I'm really excited. I've just done the first few episodes of a new animated kids show that's kind of a pretty iconic character. I'm really quite pleased with myself," he says.

David thrilled his US fans with yet more appearances at fan conventions throughout the country. April saw him appear at three events for Wizard World in St. Louis, Madison with Billie Piper and an exclusive Doctor Who event alongside Matt Smith in New York.

He also stepped out in New York to attend a Benefit Celebration honouring the RSC's King & Country.

Meanwhile it was announced that David would be joining the cast of Fireman Sam: Alien Alert, a new one hour special featuring the kids TV favourite and ITV announced who would be joining David and Olivia Colman for the third and final series of their hit drama, Broadchurch.

David spent a lot of April working on and promoting Shakespeare Live! The RSC's TV extravaganza. Catherine Tate was announced as a co host and the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and Dame Judi Dench confirmed as guest stars.

On the weekend of the event he appeared on ITV and BBC news bulletins to chat about the anniversary:

The show aired live on BBC Two and in cinemas across the globe from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratfrd-upon-Avon.

David also took part in a comedy sketch alongside other famous RSC alumni which hit the headlines thanks to a cameo from HRH Prince Of Wales.

It was announced that David was to receive an honorary degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. David studied drama at the Conservatoire from 1988 to 1991, when it was known as the Royal Scottish Academy Of Music And Drama.

Back in the US David appeared as a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, ABC Radio and CNN to talk about Richard II and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The month closed with David taking part in BBC Radio's celebration of the classic John Osborne play Look Back In Anger.
